Unit 30: Task 3: P3 + M2

Task 3
Create digital imagery that reflects the department you have chosen at The Kingswood School as a bitmap.Combine a scanned historical image with a current digital image.  Add some text and a cut-out.
(P3) 6th Feb

                                                                          M2:

Firstly I had located two images of The Kingswood Secondary Academy and saved them to my area so I could easily open them in Photoshop. I have to ensure that both images where the same size at 300pixels/inch for its resolution.

From this image I had to ensure that it overlapped the image of the school, I interacted where it overlapped with the ruler line. By doing this when I add a layer mask to the layer it will allow me to use the gradient tool and drag it from the image to the ruler line so that it blends the two images together. The layers are key and need to be unlocked otherwise you are incapable of making alterations to the original images. The gradient will make the image appear transparent so that it overlaps and blends will the base image.
The image uses RGB colour which is typically used for bitmap and web images which this image is aimed at. RGB is also known as the addition of colour which will mix various types(shades) of each specific colour, it combines the primary and secondary additive colours also to create specific colours like magenta. Each pixel that appears is initially black, then the pixels are illuminated reds and blues to form white pixels which are all used throughout RGB. All images used use additive colours to reproduce the various colours that are in the image.

When adding the text I selected the Horizontal Type Tool and type in Shaping the minds of our future, I altered the lettering size to 72pt and then change the Shaping the minds in black font and of our future in white font. Then I altered the opacity of the font to 67% opacity, and then I maneuvered it around to the placing I desired.

 The Cut out:
>I imported the image into Photoshop.
>Made the layer image unlocked so I was able to drag my image across and place it on my background image of the school.
>From there I used the magnetic lasso tool to outline the image and remove any colour that I do not need.
>I also used the eraser tool to avoid any of the images covering my background image.
>Then I moved the placement of the cut out and left the opacity at 100%.
>I also added a slight mast to use the gradient tool to make the cut-out blend and fade into the other blend I had created.
The image resolution I chose was 300pixels/inch as the higher the resolution the better graphic that will be produced and is visible.

Unit 30: Task 1: M1

Task 1 M1
Limitations digital cameras and scanners etc.
>cost based
>quality based
>size based

Digital camera:

>Do not produce good pictures - The main reason you purchase a high quality camera is so that it produces great quality pictures and if the digital camera has small megapixels it will result in poor quality images. So when purchasing a camera it is best to focus on the megapixels and ensure that they are high so that you will have very good quality photographs.
>Do not flash - If it does not flash you will be incapable of taking photographs at night for it will be too dark and the image will be distorted and barely visible.
>Storage - some digital cameras do not have very large storage areas so you may have to use an SD card to store all your images so they will not be lost.
>Some only work with SD card - If they only work with an SD card then you will have to separately purchase an SD card so that it can store your captured images.
>Costs a lot for a good enough digital camera which range £300 for professional quality which will also remain to have limitations no matter how much it may cost.
>The hard disk can fail which can result in loosing all image files if they have not been previously backed up.
>There may be a corrupted memory card which can erase any images saved on the memory card.
>May have a low battery life and lose charge fairly quickly meaning you cannot take any further images until the digital camera has been recharged.
>Slow shutter speed - If you are trying to catch an image that is going at a fast speed it is best to have a fast shutter otherwise it will not capture the image fast enough resulting in it being blurred and distorted.
All-in-one printer and scanner:
> Have size restrictions which can restrict the size of paper you may be using to
>Lamp replacement - If the bulb breaks in the scanner it is impossible to scan various data to allow the data to be received and will be incapable of scanning the document through until the bulb has been replaced.
>Unwanted extras - scanners and printers always come with unwanted extras on them especially additional apps to make alterations to your documents where some of them are considered highly unnecessary with the documents you require to duplicate.
> £159.99 for an all-in-one printer, it may sometimes be fairly expensive for high quality producing all in one printers.
>Ink is expensive to replace when used up.
>Expensive to repair if damaged as there are more components required to replace and mend.

Graphics tablet:
>Slower than drawing normally - this can be an issue as some people may just result into normal drawing as it is easier to access and a faster option.
>Lag - It may take a while for it to register and you may go over details you think you haven't already and repeat the action therefore making your image lines thicker etc.
>Larger designs can cost more - It can cost more to produce larger images as they involve intricate details that are necessary for the graphic.
>Difficult for beginners - It can be quite difficult to grasp the new techniques and approaches that you need to acquire to use the graphics tablet.
>Cost this graphics tablet costs £1,599.99 which is very expensive for a high quality graphics tablet
>Easily broken - Not very durable, they are considerably fragile and can receive many issues with components breaking and replacing these components can be considerably expensive.

Vinyl cutter:
> They take up more space than a regular printer.
>Expensive as the cost of a plotter happens to be more expensive than a regular printer.
>If you have limited space it may take a fair amount of time to find the correct locations where the plotter may have to be.
>Not very durable, are easily broken which will result in replacing it and it then costing more to replace it.

Photoshop:
>Hard to use for beginners - It can be fairly difficult to grasp new techniques.
>Expensive - Various bundles that have different option available can only be purchased separately and will cost a lot more for very important bundles that are highly accessible and desired.
>Requires a lot of memory to store - To store various produced graphics and the software itself it requires a lot of memory storage space for everything created to remain safely secured onto your devices system.

Unit 30: Task 2: P2

Task 2
The school also need to produce brochures and materials that can be used at option and parent's evenings, they also want to display graphical images on the  the Kingswood website and on school vehicles.  You need to recommend the file types needed to display the images in the locations and justify the reasons for your choice.

Graphic Type
Describe how the graphic is constructed and why you chose the graphic type
How will the final file be saved?
Image for website
Bitmap
Bitmap graphics types consist of very small pixels which are all individually a different colour. Bitmap images are usually taken on a digital camera which will capture all the pixels and is capable of being modified and made larger at a high resolution without destroying the image however may still lose some quality if zoomed in relatively close to the image. I have chosen bitmap particularly for this as they do not have to be edited for the viewers purpose.
JPG, GIF, TIFF
Image for vehicle
Vector
Vector graphics are scalable meaning that they can be adjusted so that the image is capable of being larger and displayed on various surfaces such as a Van. It is made up of lines and dots so the image can be rescaled without the image being ruined due to pixilation. I have chosen a vector graphic for a vehicle image as they are capable of separately altering single images and re-scaling there size and colour etc.
EPS, PDF,AI
Brochure
Both

Vector requires an additional plug-in to be view on the internet. The vector graphic type will be required for saving the image as a bitmap image for the logo so that it can be adjusted and rescaled however you must save it as a PNG file so that you can view it online. Vector graphics are better for displaying logos and bitmap display drawn images better, also they are both best to use when text is involved.
